PhD, EngD Industrial Doctorate Electronic electrical engineering

Course Overview

The PhD, EngD & Industrial Doctorate in Electronic & Electrical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde offer several pathways for advanced research, all lying within the Doctoral Programme. This programme is aligned to the key research areas of two broad-based research Institutes: the Institute for Energy & Environment and the Institute for Sensors, Signals & Communications.

The department has three distinct routes for postgraduate research in this field. The first route is the PhD (Doctor of Philosophy). Students can apply for the three-year PhD at any time. Applicants can suggest their own research ideas or choose a project from a list of specific topics provided by the research Institutes. All PhD students will be enrolled in the Postgraduate Certificate in Researcher Professional Development (PgCert RPD) programme. This certificate is designed to support you with your research journey and will help you improve essential skills for professional development and employability.

The second route is the EngD (Engineering Doctorate). EngD programmes are available in two specific areas: Optics and Photonics Technologies and Non-Destructive Evaluation. These programmes are often run with other well-known UK universities, so applicants might be asked to submit their application on another university's website. Applications are accepted all year. Students in the EngD programme do not need to enrol in the PgCert RPD.

The last route is the Industrial Doctorate. This option is for people who already have a job. It allows them to earn a PhD by doing a three-year research project that focuses on an issue important to their employer company. This helps the company gain useful knowledge and supports its growth.

Studying a PhD, EngD & Industrial Doctorate in Electronic & Electrical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde provides the focused research environment and professional framework for your success.

About University

The University of Strathclyde has a long history, starting in 1796 as the Andersonian Institute. It officially became a university in 1964, making it the UK's first university focused on technology and practical learning.

The University is in the best spot: right in the middle of Glasgow City Centre. Glasgow is Scotland's largest and most exciting city. Because the campus is central, students can easily enjoy the city’s lively nightlife, excellent shopping, and cultural places. Plus, it's only a short trip to see Scotland’s beautiful nature.

A very important building on campus is the Technology and Innovation Centre (TIC). This centre, built for £89 million in 2015, is a major place for technology research. It brings together university experts, companies, and businesses to work on areas like Advanced Engineering, Energy, and Health Technologies.
