LLM Law International Commercial Law

Course Overview

The LLM Law (International Commercial Law) at Northumbria University, Newcastle is for graduates who want to learn about legal issues related to global business. This course will equip both law graduates and graduates from other fields with special legal knowledge concerning international commerce. Students will apply the skills they gained to undertake either a dissertation or an applied legal project, on a topic related to International Commercial Law.

Students will study modules such as commercial contracts, intellectual property, research for advanced legal studies, international commercial law, the World Trade Organisation and international dispute resolution. Teaching methods include lectures, seminars and group work, which are supported by advanced TEL (Technology Enhanced Learning). Assessment throughout this programme will be based on coursework, with no exams.

About University

Northumbria University is a public research institution located in Newcastle, in the North-Eastern part of England.  The university has its origins in the Rutherford College, founded in 1877. It then became Newcastle Polytechnic in 1969 before gaining university status in 1992.

Entry Requirements for Sri Lankan Students

Interested applicants are to submit a personal statement describing their interest in the Master's Law (International Commercial Law) programme. Any relevant professional qualifications or suitable work experience will also be considered, including an academic or employer reference.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants are required to hold a minimum of a 2:2 honours degree in any subject.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants whose first language is not English need an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component.
  • Other equivalents, such as TOEFL or PTE, are accepted.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for the LLM Law (International Commercial Law) in Northumbria University, Newcastle is £19,350 per year for international students. Tuition fees are reviewed annually and are subject to change.

Scholarships

Northumbria University, Newcastle, offers scholarships and bursaries to full-time eligible international students to help fund their studies. The European Union (EU) scholarship gives international students who want to study a postgraduate degree a scholarship of up to £3,000, awarded on a case-by-case basis. International students can also qualify for the London Cost of Living Bursary worth £1,334 to cover living costs for one month in London.
