BEng Mechanical Engineering

Course Overview

The Northumbria University, Newcastle BEng Mechanical Engineering programme is for creative and analytical students interested in design technology. The course is intended to build confidence and skills, providing students with a knowledge of engineering in social, ethical, sustainable and economic settings. The curriculum begins with a foundation in engineering before moving on to advanced principles of mechanics, manufacturing technology, energy systems and engineering design.

The course is recognised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). Students have the opportunity to take a placement year or study abroad. A wide range of assessment formats is used, including written reports, essays, presentations, research proposals and in-class tests.

Entry Requirements for Sri Lankan Students

To be enrolled, you need to submit a personal statement, and a relevant academic and/or employer reference is also required. You can also upload your CV along with your applications to demonstrate your work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • To be enrolled, you need to achieve 112 UCAS tariff points from A-Level, T Level, BTEC, International Baccalaureate, Irish Highers, Access to HE Diplomas or a Scottish Higher.
  • International qualifications that are equivalent to A-levels are also accepted.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants need an IELTS score of 5.5 overall, with no less than 5.5 in each section. International students can also submit other test scores, like TOEFL and PTE.

Cost of Study

International students taking the BEng Mechanical Engineering at Northumbria University, Newcastle, will pay £20,950 in tuition.

Scholarships

Northumbria University offers a variety of scholarships for undergraduate students, including the Cobham-Ultra UK Undergraduate Scholarship, which awards two engineering students £3,500 in their first year. The Northumbria International Scholarship provides a £3,000 tuition fee discount for eligible international students from certain countries, such as Nigeria. Additionally, the university provides a Sport Scholarship programme to support approximately 175 student athletes annually.
