The BSc Midwifery programme at Teesside University prepares students to become skilled, confident, and compassionate midwives capable of autonomous practice within multidisciplinary healthcare teams. The course offers a balanced combination of academic learning and extensive clinical placements across leading NHS trusts, ensuring that students develop both theoretical understanding and real-world experience.
This 36-month full-time degree, accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), leads to eligibility for professional registration as a Midwife in the UK. Students participate in placement shifts that include nights and weekends, accurately reflecting the demands of real-world midwifery practice. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on leadership, communication, and critical analysis—essential skills for delivering safe and high-quality care to mothers, infants, and families.
Assessment is diverse and designed to reflect professional expectations. Students are evaluated through written assignments, case studies, exams, reflections, presentations, and projects. Practical competencies are measured using the electronic Practice Assessment Document (ePAD), which aligns with NMC standards of proficiency for midwives.
