BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Course Overview

The BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering programme at Teesside University, Middlesbrough, is a full-time three-year course (four years with a work placement) or a part-time six-year course. It covers the design, operation, analysis, and control of systems that utilise electricity, electronics, and embedded systems.

Students of the course will learn the important theories of engineering, be able to understand electrical machines, power conversion, generation, transmission, protection systems, learn programming, and also gain experience if they take the one-year placement.

It is professionally accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, on behalf of the Engineering Council in the UK. Teaching is done through lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions, guided reading, workshops, and design project work. Some modules are done offline, while others are online. Assessments are done through formal examinations, in-course assessments or coursework, design projects, presentations, online quizzes, and hands-on testing tasks.

The university started as Constantine Technical College before later becoming a full university in 1992. Entry Requirements for Pakistani Students

International applicants who want to study this course must submit academic transcripts or certificates, a personal statement or statement of purpose, a letter of recommendation, means of identification, financial evidence, a visa, and a completed application form.

Grade Requirements:

  • Students should have 96 – 112 UCAS tariff points (or the equivalent in their country).
  • International students should have graduated with 3 B’s or C’s from high school or secondary school (or the equivalent in their country).
  • Students must pass Mathematics (at least grade C) and preferably Physics or another science or technical subject.
  • Applicants can start from year two or three if they have studied an HNC or HND in a related subject.

English Proficiency:

  • International students whose first language is not English must show proof of English ability by having not less than a 6.0 overall IELTS score (with no band less than 5.5).
  • Other accepted tests include TOEFL, PTE (minimum 59 overall), or the Cambridge English scale (minimum 162).
  • Good grades in A-Level, O-Level, or an equivalent English language subject may also be accepted.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for international students to study this course is £17,000 per year. This fee can be reviewed by the university every year.

There are scholarships and funding available for international students studying this course. They include Global Excellence Scholarship (£2,000 fee reduction), Africa Excellence Scholarship (£2,000 fee reduction for African students), and the Vice Chancellor's Scholarship (£7,000 fee reduction in the first year).
