Northumbria University, Newcastle, LLM Master of Laws Professional Legal Practice master course is designed to make sure that law graduates are ready to take the assessment SQE1, which is the initial step to becoming a solicitor in England and Wales.
This course will build on the existing legal knowledge students have and equip them with the necessary understanding for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination. The course is designed to help students develop both academic and practical legal knowledge, which is required for the external assessment and professional work, setting a formidable basis for future career aspirations.
Students learn through lectures and podcasts as well as small groups and online learning, and their progress is assessed through different modes, such as coursework and a dissertation. Students will have access to detailed instructions and grade descriptors to help them understand how their work is evaluated. The program also provides an opportunity to earn an internationally recognised LLM qualification.

Grade Requirements:
Applicants need at least a 2:2 honours degree in a Qualifying Law Degree or a GDL qualification, both of which must have been awarded less than seven years ago. The university will also consider relevant professional qualifications or suitable experience.
English Proficiency:
International applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds need a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5, with at least 5.5 in each component. The university accepts several other international qualifications in place of IELTS.
