BSc Human Nutrition Dietetics

Course Overview

The course is professionally approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Dietetic Association. The programme consists of academic study carried out on campus, alongside three mandatory periods of clinical training. This training takes place in community and hospital settings across Wales. Successful completion of the degree with all placements met makes graduates eligible to apply for registration as a practising dietitian.

The learning involves several engaging methods, including practical sessions in professional kitchens and laboratories, clinical case studies, and simulated consultations. Assessment methods are a combination of written assignments and examinations, including Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE). All modules in years two and three contribute to the final degree classification, ensuring a progressive build-up of professional expertise.

Entry Requirements for Pakistani Students

Candidates are required to attend a successful interview as part of the application process for this highly sought-after course. All applicants will also need to complete an Occupational Health check and a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before they can begin their studies. The course is an NHS-funded programme, meaning places are strictly limited, and competition for entry is high.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants require 120 UCAS Tariff points from three A-levels or equivalent Level 3 qualifications.
  • These must include a minimum of Grades BC in Biology and Chemistry, with grade B obtained in either of these two subjects.
  • Applicants with a BTEC National/Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma need to achieve DDM in an Applied Science subject with sufficient Chemistry and Biology content.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants whose first language is not English must achieve an overall score of 7.0 in the Academic IELTS test, with no less than 6.5 in any single element.
  • Other equivalent Secure English Language Tests (SELT) may be considered.

Cost of Study

The annual tuition fee for this course is £16,000 per year.

Scholarships

Cardiff Metropolitan University offers a range of scholarships for international students starting full-time undergraduate programmes. The main award is the Undergraduate Scholarship, which provides £2,500 off the tuition fees for the first year of study. Students who pay their entire course fee by the deposit deadline can also get a Fee Discount of up to £1,000.

For students who have achieved a high standard in sport, the university offers Performance and Elite Sport Scholarships, providing a discount of up to £5,000 on tuition fees. Additionally, the Cardiff Met Sanctuary Award is available for those with irregular migration status, such as asylum seekers. This special award includes a fee waiver and extra financial help towards other study costs.
