MSc Bioprocessing and Biotherapeutics with Advanced Practice

Course Overview

MSc Bioprocessing and Biotherapeutics (with Advanced Practice) at Teesside University gives students a balanced foundation in biotechnology, biomanufacturing, and therapeutic product development. Students learn how biologics (like therapeutic proteins, cell therapies, and gene therapies) are made, purified, tested, and regulated. The “Advanced Practice” part means there is an internship or applied practice component, so students gain hands-on, industrial, or research experience. The course uses high-spec labs, advanced computing, and the National Horizons Centre (NHC) for research and teaching. For the Advanced Practice route, full-time mode runs over two years.

Teaching moves from fundamentals in the first modules to scale-up, validation, and regulation in later modules. The research project and the Advanced Practice placement let learners apply skills to a defined problem in a lab or company setting. Students learn through lectures, seminars, lab practicals, workshops, computing/data-analysis sessions, case studies, and project work. Assessments include examinations, technical reports, presentations, literature reviews, and project/dissertation work.
