Course Overview

The BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering (with Foundation Year) at Teesside University, Middlesbrough, is a four-year full-time course (five years with a work placement). It begins with a foundation year to develop essential knowledge in mathematics, physics, design, and professional practice before advancing into higher-level electrical and electronic engineering topics.

Students gain a strong understanding of analogue and digital electronics, microprocessors, embedded systems, modelling, coding, communication systems, electrical machines, and power systems. The course also offers international study visits and placement opportunities for hands-on experience.

This programme is professionally accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the UK Engineering Council. Teaching methods include lectures, tutorials, workshops, laboratory sessions, guided reading, and project work. Assessment is carried out through exams, coursework, in-course assessments, design projects, presentations, quizzes, and practical testing activities.

Entry Requirements for Nigerian Students

International students must submit key documents such as academic transcripts and certificates, along with proof of Level 3 qualifications (or their equivalent in the applicant’s home country).

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants must hold 32–88 UCAS tariff points from Level 3 qualifications (A levels, BTEC, high school or secondary school certification, or equivalent).
  • Applicants must have at least a grade 4 (C) in GCSE Mathematics or its equivalent.
  • International students whose qualifications are not listed may contact the university for assessment.

English Proficiency:

  • An overall IELTS score of 5.0, with no individual component below 4.5.
  • Other accepted tests include Pearson PTE, TOEFL, and O-Level English (or equivalent international qualifications).
  • The university also accepts results from other Secure English Language Tests (SELTs) or equivalent assessments.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for international students is £17,000 per year. This fee is reviewed annually and may vary depending on university policies.

There are scholarships and funding available to international students studying this course. They include Global Excellence Scholarship (£2,000 fee reduction), Africa Excellence Scholarship (£2,000 fee reduction for African students), and Vice Chancellor's Scholarship (£7,000 fee reduction).
