MBChB Medicine

Course Details

The MBChB Medicine programme is a highly competitive and intensive degree designed to train future doctors. The course provides a comprehensive foundation in Medical Sciences, Clinical Skills, and Patient Care. It integrates theory with practical experience.


The curriculum typically includes Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, Pathology, and Medical Ethics, alongside early patient contact and clinical placements in hospitals and GP practices. Problem-based learning, simulated patient interactions, and case studies are also used to develop diagnostic and decision-making skills.

Entry Requirements

Grade Requirements: 

 

Entry to MBChB Medicine is highly competitive. Standard entry requirements include:

  • A-Levels: AAA–A*AA, including Biology and Chemistry

  • IB Diploma: 36–39 points with 6,6,6 or 7,6,6 at Higher Level in Biology and Chemistry

  • Scottish Highers: AAAAB including Biology and Chemistry

  • BTEC/Access Courses: Some universities accept a Biomedical Science or Health Science BTEC or an Access to Medicine course with distinctions.

Some universities offer foundation year medicine courses for applicants who do not meet standard entry requirements.

English Proficiency: 

International applicants whose first language is not English are required to show proof of English proficiency. Academic IELTS, TOEFL, PTE Academic or equivalent are accepted.
