MSc Occupational and Organisational Psychology

Course Overview

The  MSc Occupational and Organisational Psychology at Northumbria University, Newcastle, is designed to develop the skills of graduates in applying the science of psychology to recruit and select individuals, to support the learning and career development of colleagues, and to develop evidence-based wellbeing interventions.

Learning in this course covers modules such as employee selection and assessment, workplace wellbeing, learning and development in organisations, organisational psychology consultancy skills and psychological research methods. Students will learn about leadership, organisational change and engagement.

Teaching involves seminar-based discussions, tutorials and interactive practical workshops which offer a first-hand experience of applied practice. Assessments include peer feedback, presentations, essay writing, organisational case studies and reports. Students will develop specialist knowledge through their thesis research in an area of interest.

About University

Northumbria University is a public institution located in Newcastle, England.  The university has its origins in the Rutherford College, founded in 1877. It then became Newcastle Polytechnic in 1969 before gaining university status in 1992.

The campus has a wide range of facilities to support students' learning. These facilities include classrooms, a library, clinics, labs, studios, sports centres, and several learning spaces. Dedicated students’ support services are also provided to students throughout their studies.

In the university's four faculties, which include Arts, Design and Social Sciences, Business and Law, Engineering and Environment, and Health and Life Sciences, programmes are offered at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Entry Requirements for Nepalese Students

All applicants are to submit a personal statement explaining their interest in the MSc Occupational and Organisational Psychology programme and relevant academic or professional experience, including an academic or employer reference. A CV may be uploaded to show any relevant work experience. Professional qualifications and/or relevant work experience will be considered on an individual basis.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants should normally have a minimum of a 2:2 honours degree in any subject.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants whose first language is not English need an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with no component below 6.0.
  • Other equivalents, such as TOEFL or PTE, are accepted.

Scholarships

There are scholarships and bursaries offered by Northumbria University to full-time eligible international students to help fund their studies. Scholarships such as the European Union (EU) scholarships offer students wishing to study for a postgraduate degree a scholarship of up to £3,000, awarded on a case-by-case basis. International students can also qualify for the London Cost of Living Bursary worth £1,334 to cover the living costs for one month in London.
