BEng Engineering

Course Overview

The BEng Engineering at Heriot-Watt University is a one-year programme which offers a unique opportunity for students to explore various engineering disciplines before specialising in an engineering discipline that aligns with their strengths, abilities, interests, and career ambitions. The multidisciplinary approach ensures students develop a flexible and broader skill set, applicable to various engineering challenges.

The learning areas covered involve Mechanics, Fields and Forces, Introduction to Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Design and Manufacture, which offer foundational knowledge in core science and engineering subjects such as Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, Electrical, Civil and Structural, and Architectural engineering.

The teaching methods include lectures, seminars and problem-solving tasks, while assessment is through examinations, coursework, practical exercises, reports and presentations. Practical elements such as laboratory sessions, workshops, group projects and fieldwork; are integrated throughout the curriculum, providing hands-on experience in engineering principles and methods.

Heriot-Watt University is located in Edinburgh, Scotland, with its main campus set in a green parkland environment. Entry Requirements for Nepalese Students

Applicants should submit a personal statement describing their interest in the course and any academic or professional experience. A reference from an academic or employer is required. Students can also upload a CV to show their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants typically require BBC- ABB at A Levels, which must include Maths and one of Chemistry or Physics, with required subjects at BB.
  • Additionally, a minimum of BCC at A Level is also accepted and must include Maths and one of Chemistry or Physics, with one required subject at B.
  • Alternatively, any relevant international equivalent qualifications are considered.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants who do not speak English as their first language need an overall IELTS score of 6.0, with a minimum of  5.5 in each component. The university provides pre‑sessional English courses if needed.
  • Alternatively, equivalent English tests such as PTE and TOEFL are also accepted.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for the BEng Engineering programme is £25,008 per year for international students in the 2025/26 academic year. Tuition fees are reviewed annually and may change.

Scholarships

Heriot-Watt University offers scholarships to international students to support international students financially. International students may apply for the International Merit Scholarship when they meet the required eligibility criteria.
