BSc Forensic Psychology

Course Overview

The BSc (Hons) Forensic Psychology at the University of Sunderland is an accredited degree that explores the five core areas of Psychology as defined by the British Psychological Society (BPS), applying them to the understanding of criminal behaviour and the legal system. Students study topics such as serious and violent offending — including murder, stalking, and sexual crime — while gaining insight into the professional responsibilities of a Forensic Psychologist in practice.

The course uses a combination of large and small lectures, seminars, and workshops to deliver teaching. Assessment methods are varied and include essays, scientific reports, expert witness reports, presentations, and examinations. Graduating with at least a 2:2 degree classification grants eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the BPS — a necessary qualification step toward becoming a Chartered Forensic Psychologist.
