Course Overview

The MSci Applied Chemistry & Chemical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde is a 5-year course. It is for people who want to study chemistry and chemical engineering together. The programme teaches what companies and industries need, such as how to analyse chemicals and how to process them.

Students will learn through lectures, tutorials, workshops, group work, practical classes, and computer modelling. Students will also have the chance to study at a partner university for one year (normally in the third year). These partner universities are in Europe, North America, and Asia.

Assessment (how you are graded) is done through short-answer class tests, multiple-choice tests, end-of-year exams, oral presentations, and group project work.

Entry Requirements for Indian Students

International applicants who wish to study MSci Applied Chemistry & Chemical Engineering at Strathclyde will submit their academic results from previous studies (transcripts), proof of English proficiency, a personal statement, a CV, and a reference letter. Other documents you should submit are a valid passport and financial evidence.

Grade Requirements:

  • For UCAS, students need at least 136 UCAS tariff points, including an A in Chemistry and a B in Maths, for admission to year one.
  • They need higher points with stronger grades in Chemistry, Maths, and Physics (or another science) for entry into year two.
  • Applicants starting from year 1 must have an A in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics in A-Levels (or equivalent in your country).
  • For year 2 entry, they need an A in Chemistry and a B in Maths and Physics.
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) students need at least 34 points.
  • The university also accepts equivalent qualifications from different countries.

English Proficiency:

  • International applicants from non-English-speaking countries must prove their English ability, usually with at least a 6.0 overall score in IELTS.
  • Applicants who do not meet the English requirement can take a pre-sessional English course for conditional admission.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for international students is £27,800 per year. This fee is reviewed annually and may change.

There are three major scholarships and funding for international students. They include the Faculty of Engineering International Scholarship (FEIS) (10% tuition fee reduction), International Study Centre (ISC) Scholarships, and Donor / Alumni Scholarships.
