MSc Forensic Archaeology and Anthropology

Course Overview

The MSc in Forensic Archaeology and Anthropology at Cranfield University is a highly practical programme combining archaeology with physical anthropology. This course is taught by leading experts, and it features hands-on fieldwork, such as simulated mass grave digs and excavation of buried remains, alongside stimulating lectures and guest talks.

Students study eight core modules, ranging from osteology and analytical techniques to courtroom skills, they choose three electives, and complete an individual research project and thesis over 11 months full-time (or up to three years part-time).Students are assessed through practical and written exams, continuous assessment, project presentations, and an oral defence. The course provides access to unique facilities: a taphonomy research area, virtual autopsy table, teaching skeletal collection, and labs for chemical, imaging and microscopic analysis.

Entry Requirements

Candidates must submit a personal statement explaining their reason for applying. A reference from an academic or employer is required, with an option to upload their CV is to show their skill and work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • A minimum of a lower second-class (2:2) honours degree or equivalent in archaeology, forensic science or a scientific discipline.
  • Applicants with honours in other subjects will be considered if they have relevant work experience.

English Proficiency:

  • Candidates need IELTS 7.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each section,
  • An equivalent score in TOEFL (100), Pearson PTE (68), or Cambridge exams is accepted

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for international students of this course is £25,955 per year.
