LLM Applied Master of Laws

Course Overview

The LLM (Applied) Master of Laws at Teesside University is a two-year full-time postgraduate degree designed to align students’ academic development with their professional ambitions. The course equips students with advanced legal knowledge in key areas such as Human Rights Law while fostering a strong understanding of essential legal principles and emerging global legal challenges.

The programme blends academic study with hands-on, practical learning and meaningful engagement with legal professionals and employers. Through this, students gain valuable exposure to real-world practice and build professional connections to enhance future employability.

Assessment methods are varied to develop both intellectual and practical skills. Students are evaluated through critical essays, presentations, and participation in moots (simulated court hearings). The course culminates in the LLM Dissertation, a major independent research project that allows students to explore a topic of personal interest in depth.

A core feature of this programme is the Applied/Advanced Practice module, which gives students the opportunity to gain real-world legal experience through a professional work placement or project. This placement, supported by the university’s teaching team, provides a valuable bridge between academic theory and professional application.
