LLB Law with Criminology

Course Overview

The LLB Law with Criminology from the University of Surrey will equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to progress to professional legal qualifications as a solicitor or barrister, and to engage with the principles of law. They will also gain an understanding of current issues in criminology from debates around criminal justice to social control and the role of the police in society.

The degree enables students to understand how society and crime coexist and how laws are made. It explores why crime happens, how laws address it, and what the consequences are when crimes are committed. Students will also learn how to make a difference within the criminal justice system.

During the second year of the programme, students will take a Professional Training Preparation module, which helps them to develop key employability skills, complete a law-specific version of the University's Employability Award, and hear from a wide variety of voices from practice (both legal and non-legal).
