Course Overview

BEng (Hons) Instrumentation and Control Engineering at Teesside University, Middlesbrough, is a three-year full-time programme (or four years with an optional placement year). The course focuses on the principles and practical applications of measurement, control, and automation used in industries such as oil and gas, power generation, and manufacturing.

Students study key topics including control systems, instrumentation, sensors, process control, automation, and electronics. The course includes hands-on laboratory sessions, real-world projects, and case studies to develop professional engineering skills.

Assessment methods include coursework, technical reports, projects, presentations, and formal examinations. The course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the UK Engineering Council, ensuring it meets professional standards and supports graduates in working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

Entry Requirements for Bangladeshi Students

Applicants must provide academic transcripts and certificates, proof of identification, and evidence of English language proficiency.

Grade Requirements:

  • 96–112 UCAS tariff points from A-levels, BTEC National Diplomas, or equivalent international qualifications (such as high school or secondary school certificates).
  • Mathematics or a related science/engineering subject must be passed.
  • Applicants with an HND or HNC in a relevant field may enter directly into year two or year three.

English Proficiency:

  • IELTS overall score of 6.0 (with no component below 5.5).
  • Pearson PTE Academic – overall score of 59.
  • Applicants who scored Grade C (or 65% and above) in English at O-Level, high school, or secondary school may also be considered.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for international students is £17,000 per year. Fees are reviewed annually and may change in future academic years.

Scholarships

Teesside University offers scholarships and funding opportunities for international students. These include Global Excellence Scholarship (£2,000 fee reduction), Africa Excellence Scholarship (£2,000 fee reduction for students from African countries), and Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship (£7,000 reduction in the first year).
