The BSc Nursing Science Registered Nurse (Child) at [Northumbria University, Newcastle is intended to prepare students to become Registered Nurses who are capable of caring for people through effective practices with professionalism. Students will have the ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills in handling difficult healthcare issues and the health and well-being of babies, children, young people and their families.
Throughout the course, students will be introduced to the key concepts of nursing, which have been designed and structured around the seven platforms of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) (2018) standards. This approach will encourage students to question and think critically, establishing a healthy learning habit that will last throughout their careers.
The teaching of this course involves the use of technology where all lectures are delivered electronically, including seminars, discussion groups and practical sessions. Assessments will be balanced between theory and practice, based on essays, and supervision of placements designed in partnership with organisations.
Northumbria University is a public research institution located in Newcastle, North East England. The university has its origins in the Rutherford College, founded in 1877. It then became Newcastle Polytechnic in 1969 before gaining university status in 1992.

Students enrolling for the BSc Nursing Science Registered Nurse (Child) at Northumbria University are offered the NHS Learning Support Fund: Training grant of £5,000 per academic year, for eligible students. Students studying an Extended Degree will only be eligible for funding in the last three years of their course.
