The Kingston University FdSc Nursing Associate apprenticeship is a two-year, full-time program that combines employment-based learning with part-time university attendance. This course prepares you to become a qualified nursing associate, providing hands-on care and working between healthcare support workers and registered nurses. Upon completion, you will have transferable skills like medicines management and be recommended for professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Throughout the course, you will be supported by a tutor, and you will also have access to resources such as online materials and the university library. In this course, your progress will be assessed through examinations, coursework, and practical assessments in both a simulation suite and a workplace setting. You must pass both theory and practice to receive the final award and complete an End-Point Assessment for the apprenticeship.

To be enrolled, you are required to have a Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) check and satisfactory occupational health clearance. The application also requires a personal statement and an interview. You must be employed as a healthcare support worker or in a similar role for a minimum of 37.5 hours per week, with your employer’s agreement to release you for placements and protected learning.
Grade Requirements:
You must be employed as a healthcare support worker or in a similar role for a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. You also need GCSE grades 9 to 4 (A to C) in mathematics and English language, or an equivalent qualification such as Functional Skills Level 2 in mathematics and English.
English Proficiency:
If you are from a non-English speaking background, you need an overall score of 6.0 in IELTS with a minimum of 5.5 in each section, or submit equivalent test scores like TOEFL.
The FdSc Nursing Associate at Kingston University apprenticeship is funded through the Government’s Apprenticeship Levy. This funding covers the tuition costs for teaching, assessment, and the use of university facilities and support services.
