The High Potential Individual (HPI) visa is a great opportunity introduced by the UK government to bring talented people from around the world to help boost the country’s economy and innovation. It's part of the UK’s plan to become a global centre for top talent.

The HPI visa was introduced in May 2022. This is a fantastic chance for recent graduates from top universities around the world to live, work, or study in the UK without needing a job offer.

The visa is for people who have just graduated from universities that are ranked within the top 50 in the following global rankings—

However, the HPI visa provides a flexible and attractive option for qualified individuals:

  • No job offer needed: Unlike many other work visas, the HPI visa doesn’t require a job offer or sponsorship, so you can explore different opportunities in the UK.
  • How long you can stay: If you have a bachelor’s or master’s degree, you can stay in the UK for two years. If you have a PhD, you can stay for three years.
  • Work opportunities: With an HPI visa, you can work in most jobs, including freelance work, self-employment, or even start your own business.
  • Path to other visas: The HPI visa doesn’t lead directly to permanent residency, but you can switch to other visas, like the Skilled Worker visa, to stay longer and eventually apply for permanent residency.

The HPI visa is especially helpful for international graduates looking for global experience and career growth. It opens the door to the UK’s growing job market, top universities, and diverse business opportunities.
