PhD Human Resource Management and Organisation Studies

Course Overview

The University of Essex PhD Human Resource Management course offers a valuable chance to deeply study how organisations work, how people are managed, and what it is like to be employed. This course welcomes students with different backgrounds in social sciences, as well as those interested in combining ideas from various fields for their research.

The main goal of this course is to help students become independent researchers who can bring new ideas to their area of study. Students have the flexibility to focus their research on a particular job or industry. For instance, they might study topics like human resource management, environmental care and fairness, how people behave at work, or the role of gender in the workplace.

To check students’ progress, there will be regular meetings with supervisors, written assignments, and meetings twice a year with a special board. The programme finishes with a long written paper, between 50,000 and 80,000 words, and an oral exam. Students also get to use a private study area for PhD students and have access to many research materials online.
