LLM International Law

Course Overview

The LLM International Law programme at Birmingham City University is created for students from any academic background who have an interest in global justice and skills development for professions in international law, human rights, or international development.

The programme provides a deep understanding of the application of legal principles to global challenges and a preparatory module on transferable skills and opportunities to engage with the Centre for Human Rights.

Learning is focused on the University's Employability Framework which emphasises independent study and practical experience for the professional world. Assessments in the course are designed to allow students to demonstrate their communication abilities when addressing complex issues within international law.

Entry Requirements

Students need to submit personal statements during application and other relevant information regarding their studies. A relevant academic and/or employer reference is also necessary. Students have the option to upload their CVs along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.

Grade Requirements: 

  • Applicants are expected to have at least a second-class honours undergraduate degree or an International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum of 28 points.
  • Equivalent international qualifications are also considered.

English Proficiency: 

  • Non-English-speaking applicants need to achieve an IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with at least 6.0 in each section. 
  • Equivalent English test scores are also accepted.

Cost of Study

For international students studying the LLM International Law in Birmingham City University, the full-time course fee is £18,600 per year.

Scholarships

Birmingham City University offers several scholarships and bursaries to assist students with their studies. International postgraduate students may be eligible for a partial merit-based scholarship of up to £2,000 from their tuition fees, based on their academic performance. Birmingham City University graduates enrolling in an eligible Master's programme for the first time may qualify for a 20% fee reduction through the Graduate Scholarship.
