International students must have a Student Pass issued by the Malaysian Immigration Department through Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS). The Student Pass is valid for the length of the student's programme and can be renewed annually (where applicable).
For school holidays and semester breaks, students can work up to 20 hours per week with Immigration approval and the approved sectors are officially listed as restaurants, mini-markets, hotels, and petrol kiosks
Eligibility is currently limited to graduates from a specific list of around 29 nationalities (including Australia, UK, US, Canada, most EU/EEA countries, plus China and India on an extended basis until 31 December 2026). Students from countries outside this list, which includes much of Africa, Latin America, and parts of Asia and the Middle East, are not eligible
