LLM Law, Technology Innovation

Course Overview

The LLM Law, Technology & Innovation at the University of Strathclyde will equip students with the technological skills, knowledge of technology law, innovation and leadership. Graduates will have the opportunity to build their own technological projects while gaining an understanding of the law that regulates the design, development and distribution of technology internationally.

Students will explore legal issues related to innovation and leadership, particularly in areas such as AI, machine learning, big data and other advances in computing power. There will also be opportunities to learn coding languages and gain a better understanding of algorithmic bias. They can also apply to undertake placement or consultancy projects to develop their skills through more advanced coding projects or explore a technology law issue in detail through a dissertation or enhanced research proposal.

Founded in 1796, the University of Strathclyde is a leading public research university located in the centre of Glasgow, Scotland's largest city. It was the first technological university in the UK. It was built on the principle of offering "useful learning". The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in four faculties: Engineering, Science, the Strathclyde Business School, and Humanities and Social Sciences.

Entry Requirements

Interested candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their studies. An academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants are expected to have a first- or second-class honours degree, or overseas equivalent. A Law degree is not a prerequisite for this course.
  • The university will also consider substantial professional experience.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants from non-English-speaking backgrounds usually need an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in each of the four components.
  • Alternatively, equivalent qualifications like PTE and TOEFL are also accepted.

Cost of Study

The annual tuition fee for international students on the LLM Law, Technology & Innovation at the University of Strathclyde is £25,000.
