BA English and Creative Writing History

Course Overview

The BA Hons English and Creative Writing & History at the University of Strathclyde is an undergraduate degree that teaches students about the English language and literature, which helps them to gain skills in communication, critical thinking, and writing. This course helps students to apply lexis and structure and other literary devices to understand how certain pieces of writing connect to historical events. It also includes introductory modules in History, where students learn about past events and how they have shaped the current times.

In this programme, students learn about linguistics, social studies, literature, history, and their impact on communication. These subjects prepare them for careers in Creative Writing, where they can write novels, articles, poetry, drama, and even publish fictional and non-fictional work. They could also work as content writers, ghostwriters, or scriptwriters who bring ideas to life through great storytelling. Additionally, graduates build research skills, important in creative writing and understanding historical topics, building them into brilliant historians. They can also secure roles in teaching, media, journalism, editing, marketing, and communication.

Learning is through lectures, seminars, site visits, group discussions, and workshops. Assessment of students is done through written essays, presentations, reports, assignments, oral examinations, and a final-year project thesis.
