BSc Applied Cyber Security including Foundation Year
Course overview
The BSc Applied Cyber Security, including Foundation Year, at the University of South Wales is a four-year undergraduate degree. The foundation year is designed for students who need extra support at the start. This course is suitable for students who do not have a strong background in computing. The Foundation Year is the first year of the course. This year, students learn the basic ideas of computing. The foundation year introduces key academic and technical skills, ensuring students are prepared for degree-level learning. Following the foundation year, the degree develops in-depth knowledge of applied cybersecurity. The course explores cyber risks, security controls, threat detection, and system protection methods used in real organisations.
Students work with practical tools and simulated environments to understand how cyber attacks occur and how they are prevented. The programme is taught in different ways to help students learn effectively. Students take part in seminars and workshops, which allow them to discuss topics and ask questions. Practical lab sessions are included so students can practise their skills using computers. Learning methods include lectures, supervised labs, technical exercises, group work, and independent study. Assessment is mainly coursework-based and includes reports, technical tasks, presentations, practical assessments, and project work.
