  • If the applicant has a master's degree in a suitable subject, that will also be considered, and work experience or other qualifications that are just as good as these degrees, they might also be accepted. Everyone who applies will have an interview as part of getting in.

English Proficiency:

  • This means getting an IELTS score of 6.5 overall. Also, applicants must not score less than 6.0 in any part of the test (like reading, writing, listening, or speaking). Applicants can also send in scores from other approved English tests that are just as good.
  • Another way to meet this English requirement is to complete a special English course that the university offers before the main studies begin.

Cost of Study

For starts in October 2025, February 2026, and April 2026, the annual tuition fee for full-time PhD and MPhil programmes for international students is £19,200.

Scholarships

Full-time and part-time MPhil courses are eligible for the Government Postgraduate Loan, available to UK and EU students only. Similarly, full-time and part-time PhD courses are eligible for the Government Doctoral Loan, also for UK and EU students only.
