MSc Building Information Management

Course Overview

This MSc program focuses on Building Information Modelling (BIM), addressing the industry's shift towards digital design, construction, and maintenance of modern structures. The curriculum integrates data and construction management with BIM design principles, utilising industry-standard software such as Revit and AutoCAD. The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) accredits the course, indicating that it meets the CIOB Education Framework.

The course employs various teaching methods, which include lectures, seminars, tutorials, and both individual and group projects. Assessment methods include individual coursework, group projects and presentations, reports, exams, and a dissertation. Students receive feedback on practice and formal assessments to help them improve. 

The program is available in multiple study modes and durations, including full-time, part-time, and distance learning options, with start dates in September and January. The course accepts UK, EU, and international students. The University of Portsmouth has campuses in both Portsmouth and London. Entry Requirements

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement. In this statement, they should discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their studies. Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants need at least a second-class honours degree (or equivalent) in a technical or analytical discipline. Alternatively, a different degree will be acceptable if the student has enough relevant work experience in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) fields. Equivalent professional experience and qualifications can also be taken into account.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds need to score 6.0 overall in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with 5.5 in each section or submit equivalent test scores such as PTE or TOEFL.

Cost of Study

For international students, the full-time cost of this program is £19,200. If studying part-time, the fee is £6,400 for the first year and £12,800 for the second year. Part-time distance learning has a cost of £3,630 in the first year and £7,270 in the second year; please note that these fees may increase each year.

Scholarships

The University of Portsmouth offers some financial help for international students who are starting their first undergraduate degree. The Chancellor's Global Academic Merit Scholarship provides a £5,000 reduction in tuition fees for the first year of study. Also, the Vice Chancellor's Global Development Scholarship offers a £2,500 discount on the fees for the first year.
