MSc Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

University of Portsmouth

Course overview

The University of Portsmouth's MSc Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning programme equips you with the skills needed to create intelligent systems that address real-world issues. You'll get a thorough grasp of how machines process information, decide what to do, and continue becoming better. Whether it’s designing chatbots, analysing images, or predicting outcomes, you’ll gain the practical experience needed to work on a wide range of AI and machine learning projects.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to develop your software solutions that use artificial intelligence to automate tasks, extract insights from large datasets, or simulate human thinking. You’ll also learn how to explain the results of AI systems, which is an important skill in business, healthcare, security, and other sectors where AI is being used today. This course is suitable for students from computing, engineering, or science backgrounds who want to specialise in AI and machine learning.

You’ll learn through lectures, seminars, lab work, group work, and independent study, while most of the course is assessed through coursework, research projects, written reports, presentations, and practical tests. In each module, you’ll combine theory with practice to make sure you understand how AI systems work and how to apply them in real situations.
