BSc Creative Computing

Course Overview

This BSc Creative Computing at the University of Portsmouth course teaches students to use technology as a new and original creative tool. They will learn by making things, focusing on areas such as developing design systems, building hardware prototypes, and creating software for modern applications, such as generative art and audio programming. The standard degree takes three years full-time, but students can extend it to four years by including a professional work placement.

Students will use professional tools, such as game engines and emerging technologies, to do real work and solve practical problems. When they complete their degree, students can choose to earn a BSc (Bachelor of Science) if they want to be a developer (someone who builds software) or a BA (Bachelor of Arts) if they prefer creative coding (using code for art). This choice depends on which modules you choose later. The course is designed to help them bring together their technical skills (such as programming) and their creative skills in areas like music, visual art, and film.
