PhD Philosophy of Physics

Course Overview

The PhD Philosophy programme at the University of Lincoln provides a thorough and helpful setting for students who want to do detailed research in different areas of philosophy. The programme aims to help students develop advanced critical thinking, analytical, and writing abilities, preparing them for careers in universities and other fields. Students will study a wide range of philosophical ideas and current discussions, with support from expert teachers who are actively researching in many philosophical areas.

Learning and assessment on the programme involve a mix of independent research, regular meetings with assigned academic supervisors, and chances to take part in research seminars and workshops. Students will be expected to develop their research projects with the guidance of their supervisors, leading to a substantial doctoral thesis that offers a new contribution to philosophical knowledge.

Assessment is mainly based on the quality and originality of the thesis, as well as the student's ability to explain and defend their research in spoken examinations. There are also more opportunities to grow, such as presenting work at conferences and publishing in academic journals.
