BA Social Work

University of Kent

Course overview

The BA Social Work at the University of Kent is a three-year degree that lets you become a fully qualified and registered social worker in England as soon as you graduate. You will learn important things like how people grow and change, the laws that protect children and vulnerable adults, mental health, fairness and equality, and how to help families in difficult situations.

The course is very practical. Alongside classes, you do two long real-world placements in places like children’s services, adult social care teams, hospitals, or charities. You work with experienced social workers and get proper support and supervision every step of the way.

Teaching is carried out using different methods. You will have lectures, small-group workshops where you practise interviews and difficult conversations (often with actors), group discussions, and talks from people who have actually used social work services.

You are assessed in different ways, including essays, exams, presentations, written reflections about your own practice, and reports from the social workers who supervise you on placement. When you finish the BA Social Work at the University of Kent, you are ready to start work straight away as a professional social worker with children, families, older people, or adults with disabilities.
