BSc Secondary Teaching Studies Computer Science

University of Hull

Course overview

The BSc Secondary Teaching Studies (Computer Science) at the University of Hull explores education theory, research, policy, and professional practice alongside the needs and development of children and young people. The programme offers an accelerated pathway towards a PGCE or a direct teaching role in schools, allowing students to contribute meaningfully to the powerful impact education has on individuals and communities.

Students take part in reflective professional practice through a work-based module at the end of the first year and visit a wide range of learning environments. These include mainstream and special schools, alternative provision settings, galleries, and museums. The course also provides the opportunity to gain an accredited Forest School certification, supporting children’s outdoor learning.

The programme gives access to a strong professional network of over 600 charities, schools, and education-focused organisations. Students benefit from guest lectures, professional practice observations, and placement opportunities in the UK and abroad. In collaboration with Computer Science specialists from the Faculty of Science and Engineering, students explore topics aligned with the school curriculum while also developing degree-level subject knowledge in Computer Science.
