BSc Midwifery
Course overview
The Midwifery (BSc) at the University of Hull is a three-year undergraduate degree that is fully approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). The course aims to give students the confidence and skills required to become a qualified midwife. The programme is split evenly: half the time is spent in classes learning the theory, and the other half is spent on clinical placements (practical work in hospitals or units), ensuring students get a good balance of academic knowledge and hands-on experience.
Learning happens in the Allam Medical Building, which has modern training facilities like a midwifery-led birthing unit and a mock hospital ward for simulation practice. Students' marks are based on academic tasks, such as written modules (essays and exams), and continuous evaluation of their work during clinical placements (called Midwifery Practice modules). Once they complete the course, they can register as a qualified midwife with the NMC.
