MSc Psychology

University of EssexColchester Campus, United Kingdom

Course overview

This Master's degree in Psychology at the University of Essex is an excellent choice if you didn't study Psychology for your first degree, or if your current qualification isn't accepted by the British Psychological Society (BPS) for official accreditation. This course helps you get the necessary credentials to work towards becoming a chartered psychologist in the UK.

The course gives you a strong foundation in key areas of psychology, covering topics like how people behave in groups (social psychology), how we develop over time (developmental psychology), how we think (cognitive psychology), and how the brain affects behaviour. You'll receive intense training in research methods and statistics through practical, hands-on sessions, lectures, and group discussions.

To complete the course successfully, you need to finish several coursework assignments, pass formal written examinations, and submit a long 10,000-word research project. Finishing this course successfully means you qualify for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the BPS, which is the first step toward becoming a chartered psychologist.
