BSc Forensic Science With Foundation Year
Course overview
The BSc Forensic Science with Foundation Year at the University of Derby is a great programme to help you become a confident and skilled scientist who solves crimes. This is a four-year course. It starts with a Foundation Year, which is perfect if you are changing your career, returning to school, or need extra help to prepare for university study. During this initial year, expert staff will help you build your skills, knowledge, and confidence so you can successfully move on to the main Honours degree.
The main degree focuses on the practical side of solving crimes, meeting the demands of a world that requires increasingly modern investigation techniques. You will get lots of hands-on experience using the University's facilities. These special facilities include a crime scene training area, special labs, a room for studying bugs (an insectary), a lab for studying bones (forensic anthropology), a ballistics lab, and even a mock hidden burial site. You will practise investigating realistic fake crime scenes, such as break-ins and computer crimes.
The BSc Forensic Science with Foundation Year at the University of Derby is officially approved by The Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences, which means it teaches you high professional standards. This thorough training ensures you are prepared for every step of a forensic career, from collecting evidence to upholding justice, matching global priorities like the UN goal for 'Peace and Justice'.
