BSc Biomedical Science
Course overview
The BSc Football Studies at the University of Central Lancashire explores football not only as a sport, but also as a business, a social phenomenon, and a public health tool. Students learn about the football industry from various angles, including media, fandom, coaching, business, management, performance analysis, events, and development. The course blends theory and real-world practice for anyone passionate about the game and interested in a career connected to football. Facilities include a sports centre, sport-analysis and coaching suites, and access to local clubs and organisations for placements and real-world exposure.
The standard degree runs for three years full-time. For those who need extra preparation or do not meet direct entry requirements, there is a four-year option including a foundation year. Students study a broad mix of topics: global media markets, football culture and fandom, coaching theory and practice, performance analysis, sport business and management, event planning, and health and well-being related to sport. The course includes visits to real-world football organisations and opportunities for placements in the football industry. Learning takes place in lectures, seminars, practical workshops, and industry-linked visits. Students work on reports, essays, case studies, media, and business-analysis tasks, and possibly coaching or performance projects. Assessment mixes coursework, projects, group work, and practical tasks to reflect real football-industry work.
