BSc Computing with Foundation Year

University of Lancashire

Course overview

This four-year BSc Computing (with Foundation Year) at the University of Lancashire is ideal if students need extra time to prepare before beginning their full honours degree. It teaches them about the computer systems and software we use every day, focusing mainly on software development, databases, and how people interact with computers (user interface design). Once the foundation year is complete, students move on to the full course. They also get the chance to study topics like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) using optional classes.

Learning focuses on hands-on work, which allows students to use their computer skills to fix real-life issues. Students will work in special labs and use industry-approved software for things like setting up computer networks and testing security. Their grades will be based on a combination of homework, group tasks, presentations, and exams. The whole course builds up to a major Honours Degree Project that students will complete in the final year.
