BEng Civil Engineering with Foundation Year

University of Lancashire

Course overview

The BEng Civil Engineering (with a Foundation Year) at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is for students who want to study civil engineering but do not yet meet the direct entry requirements. The foundation year helps students develop important skills in maths, science, and engineering before moving on to the main degree.

Throughout the programme, students get to learn about areas like structural design, geotechnics, environmental engineering, soil mechanics, construction technology, and project management. Students are taught through lectures, lab work, workshops, field trips, and group projects, giving students both theoretical and practical experience.  They are assessed based on coursework, lab and fieldwork reports, design projects, group work, presentations, and exams.

By the end of the programme, students have the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to begin a career in civil engineering or continue with further professional training.
