BA 2D Animation and Stop Motion with Foundation Year

Course Overview

This BA (Hons) 2D Animation and Stop Motion (with Foundation Year) course teaches students how to create stories and bring their characters to life. It covers important animation skills, including drawing, planning visuals, how to film scenes, hand-drawn 2D animation, and stop motion techniques. Students will also learn about the animation preparation and production stages.

Students gain hands-on experience by working on group projects with other animation students. The university has special 2D animation studios with industry-standard software, workshops, and stop-motion studios equipped with lighting, cameras, and green screens for filming.

Teesside University has a campus located in the town centre, which has recently received significant investment, totalling £280 million. Entry Requirements

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement where they explain why they want to apply for the course and share other relevant details about their studies. An academic or employer reference is also needed. Students can upload their CV with their application to show any work experience they have.

Grade Requirements:

  • For the Foundation Year, the offer is 96-112 UCAS points from Level 3 qualifications.
  • If your Level 3 qualifications do not include a creative subject like art, design, drawing, animation, or games art/design, you will need to provide a portfolio. This portfolio should show your basic drawing skills and creative ability.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds need to achieve an overall score in IELTS, along with minimum scores in each section, or submit equivalent recognised test scores.
  • For computing and creative arts subjects, an IELTS score of 5.5 is often required.

Cost of Study

International students' tuition fee is £17,000 a year.

Scholarships

Teesside University provides a range of scholarships designed to support eligible international students. These include the Vice Chancellor's Scholarship, which offers a £7,000 fee reduction in the first year for students showing outstanding potential to be future global leaders. Additionally, the Global Excellence Scholarship provides a £2,000 fee reduction in the first academic year for international students who demonstrate strong academic performance in their application.

The university also participates in the British Council GREAT Scholarships programme, offering £10,000 scholarships for postgraduate courses to students from certain countries. Furthermore, current international undergraduate students who continue to postgraduate study at Teesside University may be eligible for a £1,000 Alumni Scholarship. Specific scholarships are also available for students from China.
