MOst Osteopathy
Course overview
The M.Ost Osteopathy degree at Swansea University is a four-year, full-time course that prepares students to become registered osteopaths. The degree teaches how to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal and health issues using manual therapy, exercise, rehabilitation, and advice. Students learn anatomy, physiology, pathology, and the psychology of pain, along with clinical examination techniques. The degree is approved by the General Osteopathic Council, enabling graduates to register for practice.
In the early years, students gain foundational scientific knowledge and lab skills. From year two onward, clinical placements begin. Students gradually move from observation to supervised practice and, in the final year, to more autonomous clinical work. The university runs its own osteopathic clinic in the Health and Wellbeing Academy, staffed by practising osteopaths, where students treat patients in a supervised setting. The course also includes modules in business development for those who may open their own practice. Students learn through lectures, labs, clinical sessions, seminars, supervised practice, and placements. Assessment methods include written exams, lab reports, clinical assessments, case studies, reflective logs, and a final dissertation or project.
