FdSc Coaching in the Community Football

Staffordshire University

Course overview

The Coaching in the Community (Football) foundation degree is studied over two years and will prepare students for working in professional and grassroots environments. The university has teamed up with Stoke City FC Community Trust to offer amazing work experience opportunities, which will help strengthen coaching capabilities.

In the first year, there will be an introduction to industry practice and sport science, including physiology, biomechanics, sport psychology, and strength and conditioning. This will give students a grounding in all the essential components of working in football. Students can then tailor their studies to particular interests through optional modules in their second year. Students will be taught through a combination of face-to-face sessions and online learning.

Other aspects of the course include coaching several groups, such as people with disabilities, and exploring contemporary issues in sport. During the first year, students will develop their knowledge of the underlying concepts and principles in coaching sport/exercise within community settings, with access to support and placement opportunities.
