MSc Forensic Science
Course overview
This Master's degree in Science gives students the specialist knowledge and practical skills needed for jobs in forensic science and law. The course covers important subjects like crime scene investigation, advanced ways to analyse evidence, and how to correctly handle and explain the evidence found. Students can study the programme full-time over one year or part-time over two years at the university's Clifton Campus.
Students get excellent practical experience using the main forensic techniques, taught by professionals who work in the field. The course helps students understand the legal rules for presenting evidence in court and what an expert witness must do. They are assessed in different ways, such as written exams, assignments, giving presentations, and completing a big research project.
Entry requirements
Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their studies. An academic and/or employer reference is also required. Students have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to demonstrate their work experience and additional professional background.
Grade Requirements:
- Applicants need at least a second-class honours undergraduate degree (2.2) in a relevant science subject, such as Chemistry, Forensics, Pharmacology, or Pharmacy.
- Alternatively, a different degree will be acceptable if the student has enough relevant employment experience in a field related to forensic science or laboratory work, and non-standard qualifications will be considered for entry.
English Proficiency:
- Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds need to score at least 6.5 overall in the IELTS Academic test, with a minimum of 5.5 in each of the individual components (reading, writing, listening, and speaking).
