Course overview

The BSc Sport and Exercise Science (with foundation year) at Nottingham Trent University begins with a foundation year in which you are introduced to the scientific aspects of sport, exercise and physical activity for health. The emphasis is on many practical sessions, so students can apply theory and prepare with the skills sought by employers. In the subsequent years, students build on students' passion for sport and exercise, and explore disciplines such as psychology, physiology, biomechanics, performance analysis and nutrition and the teaching is supported by excellent lab facilities and strong industry relationships.

Students learn through lectures, seminars, workshops and practical sessions, and benefit from independent study as the course progresses and are assessed through coursework, group projects, lab reports, practical assessments, and exams. There are opportunities for work placements or a “sandwich” year and study abroad, industry relationships through the Sport and Wellbeing Academy and support from the university’s employability team.

Entry requirements

Candidates BSc Sport and Exercise Science (with foundation year) from Nottingham Trent University are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and relevant information regarding their studies. An academic or employer reference is also required and students have the option to upload their CV along with their applications to show their work experience.

Grade Requirements

  • Applicants need 72 UCAS tariff points from three A-levels (or equivalent).
  • Applicants need GCSE or equivalent grade C/4 in English and Maths, plus PE or Science at C/4.
