BSc Nursing Science Registered Nurse Learning Disabilities

Course Overview

The BSc Nursing Science Registered Nurse (Learning Disabilities) at Northumbria University, Newcastle, will provide students with experience in a caring role and prepare them to become Registered Nurses who are capable of caring for people with learning disabilities compassionately through effective and professional practice.

Students will study partially on campus and partially on placement, which will give them a balanced approach to theory and practice. The curriculum follows the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) (2018) standards, which encourage students to think critically and establish healthy learning habits that will last throughout their careers.

The teaching methods in this course involve the use of technology where all lectures are delivered electronically, including seminars, discussion groups and practical sessions. Assessments will be balanced between theory and practice, based on essays, and supervision of placements designed in partnership with organisations.

About University

Northumbria University is a public institution located in Newcastle, England.  The university has its origins in the Rutherford College, founded in 1877. It then became Newcastle Polytechnic in 1969 before gaining university status in 1992.

Entry Requirements

Applicants are to submit a personal statement explaining their interest in the BSc Nursing Science Registered Nurse (Learning Disabilities) and relevant academic or relevant experience, including an academic or employer reference. A CV may be uploaded to show any relevant work experience.

Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants typically need 112 UCAS Tariff points (From a combination of acceptable Level 3 qualifications, which may include: A-level, T Level or BTEC Diplomas/Extended Diplomas)
  • Alternatively, equivalent qualifications in relevant fields are considered.

English Proficiency:

  • Non-English speaking applicants need an overall IELTS (Academic) score of 7.0, with a minimum of 6.5 in each component.
  • Alternative English language tests like the Occupational English Test (OET), PTE or TOEFL are accepted.

Cost of Study

The tuition fee for this course is £19,350 per year for international students. Tuition fees are reviewed annually and are subject to change.

Scholarships

Students enrolling for the BSc Nursing Science Registered Nurse (Learning Disabilities) at Northumbria University are offered the NHS Learning Support Fund: A training grant of £5,000 per academic year for eligible students. Students studying an Extended Degree will only be eligible for funding in the last three years of their course. Also, there are scholarships and bursaries offered by the University to full-time eligible international students to help fund their studies. International students can also qualify for the London Cost of Living Bursary worth £1,334 to cover the living costs for one month in London.
