BSc Sport and Exercise Science Physical Education and Coaching

The BSc Sport and Exercise Science (Physical Education and Coaching) degree at Middlesex University prepares students for roles in sports coaching, physical education, performance support, and wellbeing. The course covers how the human body works in sport (physiology, biomechanics), how people learn movement and skills (pedagogy), and the psychological aspects of sport, fitness, health, and nutrition. Students work in modern labs, simulation suites, and high-performance facilities at StoneX Stadium. Practical work with schools, clubs, and professional or community sport settings is included.

The full‐time degree lasts 3 years at Hendon Campus. There is a Foundation Year route for those who do not meet the entry points. Modules move from foundational topics in sports science fundamentals, training and conditioning, performance analysis in early years, to more advanced topics in coaching, pedagogic theory, skill acquisition, athlete monitoring, psychology, and biomechanics. The final year includes research work and work-based practice. Students are taught through lectures, seminars, workshops, labs, field work, coaching sessions, and placements. Students spend time practising coaching, fitness testing, skill work, performance analysis, and designing training plans. Assessment methods include reports, practical tasks, presentations, portfolios, tests, and a dissertation or final research project.
