This BA (Hons) Interior Architecture course at Middlesex University is designed to help students learn how to design interiors in existing buildings. It focuses on adapting, remodelling, and re-using spaces. Students learn sketching, CAD, AI tools, model-making, prototyping, and fabrication. The course invites work with structure, sustainability, reuse of materials, and spatial planning. Students develop creative ideas and technical skills to plan spaces in homes, public buildings, museums, or workplaces. A sandwich (placement) year option is available to gain real work experience.
The full-time course lasts 3 years for full-time study and is taught at Hendon Campus. There is also a Foundation Year route, making it 4 years, for those who need to prepare before starting the main degree. Year 1 starts with shared modules for Interior Architecture and Interior Design to build core design thinking and skills. Later years deepen study in spatial design, hybrid uses, architectural context, structural awareness, sustainable design, and visualisation.
Students also have the opportunity to take a placement year to gain real practical experience. Learning happens through studio work, workshops, seminars, tutorials, and model-making labs. Students also work in digital visualisation and fabrication labs. Assessment includes design projects, portfolios, presentations, written work, and crits (design reviews). Feedback is regular to help improve work.
