London Metropolitan University

BSc Pharmacology including foundation year

London Metropolitan University

Course overview

London Met’s BSc Pharmacology (including foundation year) is a four-year programme that provides knowledge about the science of drug production, including their effects on patients. This course also includes a foundation year, where students who do not meet the standard requirements familiarise themselves with the course content before entering the main bachelor’s degree.

In this programme, students build a strong foundation in biological and chemical sciences to prepare them for careers in drug discovery and development, pharmaceutical research, and clinical research. They will also undertake practical sessions, which help them understand drug action, toxicity, and how the body reacts to chemical substances.

Additionally, students learn pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, which enables them to develop new drugs that pass quality control checks because of their understanding of how the human body functions. By the end of this programme, students will be able to conduct research, push sales and marketing of medicines, and ensure quality assurance. Learning is through lectures, laboratory sessions, and tutorials. Assessment methods include tests, coursework, examinations, datasheets, comprehension exercises, and portfolios.
