MSc Health Psychology

Course Overview

The Liverpool John Moores University MSc Health Psychology programme meets the Stage 1 training requirements for accreditation from the British Psychological Society (BPS). The curriculum aims to enhance understanding of how psychology affects health and illness, and how it can be used to promote wellbeing and healthier lifestyles. It also examines issues of coping and adjustment in relation to long-term conditions and covers all aspects of health across the lifespan.

 

The course has a strong focus on psychological investigation and ethical issues. Students will learn about the application of psychology for the promotion and maintenance of health, the analysis and improvement of the health care system, and the prevention of illness. The course also includes a module for a research project or dissertation. Assessment methods include written assignments, examinations, presentations, and practical reports.

Entry Requirements

Candidates are required to submit a personal statement in which they discuss their reasons for applying for the course and other relevant information regarding their studies. Grade Requirements:

  • Applicants need a good honours degree, at a minimum of 2:1, in Psychology.
  • Candidates must also have satisfied the BPS conditions for Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC).
  • Applications from those who can show that they have some experience working in health are welcome.

English Proficiency:

  • Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds need to score a minimum of 7.0 overall in IELTS (with 6.5 in each section) or submit equivalent test scores.

Cost of Study

For international students taking the MSc Health Psychology at Liverpool John Moores University, the tuition fee is £18,250 per year.

Scholarships

The university offers various scholarships for international postgraduate students, which can be in the form of tuition fee reductions. An International Achievement Scholarship of £3,500 is offered to eligible self-funded international students. There is also a £500 early payment discount available for self-funded international students who pay their fees by the required deadline. Additionally, the GREAT Scholarships programme offers scholarships worth £10,000.
